Ellis Island

Challenge

Our first phase of work consisted of performing stabilization throughout the Hospital and Administration Building. Our challenge was that of the elimination of a long history of water infiltration throughout the structure.

Solution

We repaired deficiencies noted throughout the roof and gutter systems and ridge cap details were replaced. We encapsulated a roof opening where one time a dormer/skylight structure existed. All inactive chimney structures where permanently capped and fabricated. Corrugated canopy structures were provided at the basement step locations.

Service
  • Historic Exterior Masonry Restoration
  • Structural Stabilization Procedures
  • Restoration of the Roof and Gutter Systems
Comments

Paragon Restoration was honored and proud to be involved with the restoration of Ellis Island. Most important, we were glad to be a part of “Ellis Island Day”, where volunteers from all over the country came to pitch in and help clean up the Island along with restoring some of the old facade brick details throughout the building’s envelope. Paragon guided the volunteers by demonstrating cleaning and preservation methods that should be utilized to restore brick masonry units for future use.

Currently, Paragon Restoration Corporation is performing a project known as “Phase III” on Ellis Island.
